How the Buy Northeast Ohio Initiative Works
The Center's Buy Northeast Ohio initiative works to collectively leverage local hospitals’ buying power to grow area businesses and to bring jobs and new businesses to the region.
Recently, The Center created a collaborative partnership with BioEnterprise and Team NEO. The Center’s role in this partnership will be to work with area hospitals’ supply chain departments to identify product categories and vendors that present opportunities for attracting new capacity to the region. Once these potential companies are identified, The Center will work with BioEnterprise and Team NEO to negotiate bringing research and development, production, or distribution activities to Northeast Ohio.
In addition, The Center is assisting The Cleveland Foundation with market testing new Evergreen Cooperatives ideas with member hospitals. Finally, The Center’s Buy Northeast Ohio initiative includes creating a database that will encompass all local suppliers and service providers that can address a hospital’s needs. This database, now in development, will allow hospitals within Northeast Ohio to easily search the resources we have within our very own community.
This database will also assist The Center in identifying gaps in supply or service providers within Northeast Ohio – some of which may be helpful in attracting businesses from outside the region. As part of this database, The Center will analyze member hospitals’ local spend and assist in creating benchmarks to increase the amount of money injected into Northeast Ohio’s economy.
