The Center's Hospital Board Academy

Recognizing the unique knowledge base required of hospital trustees, The Center created this Hospital Board Academy website to provide resources and support for those serving on hospital boards. This website was designed specifically to take into account the diverse backgrounds, academic trainings and talents of hospital trustees, and to recognize that for trustees, time is an especially scarce resource.

The Online Curriculum is designed to introduce hospital board members who are new to their role to the fundamentals of serving on a hospital board. It includes subjects such as governance, board performance and strategic planning as well as material intended to inform them about the business of running a hospital. The curriculum builds on itself. The easiest way to complete it is to begin with Phase 1 and proceed through the materials.

The Role of the Board contains information that can be used to help newly appointed board members become acquainted with their key duties while also helping veteran board members consider strategies to evaluate the board’s performance and make targeted improvements.

As the leading advocate for Northeast Ohio hospitals, The Center offers information about other health policy topics such as federal healthcare reformhospital nonprofit tax status and healthcare quality improvement in the Public Policy and Advocacy section of our website.
