Volume Statistics

The Center for Health Affairs Volume Statistics (VolStats) program is an initiative that collects hospital volume data from 30 Northeast Ohio hospitals and compiles it in convenient, up-to-date reports on a password protected web page.

Participating hospitals have access to monthly reports documenting more than 25 volume indicators such as total facility days and discharges, total physical rehabilitation days and discharges, average length of stay, observation patients and emergency room cases. Click here for a complete list of indicators.

In addition to the monthly report, data is aggregated quarterly to create a Volume Statistics Quarterly Trend Report.  This report presents volume trends in a graphical layout by quarter starting in 2002, allowing for convenient quarter-to-quarter and year-to-year comparisons.

In 2010 The Center began a process to upgrade its Volume Statistics program.  A series of interviews and focus groups with regional hospital leaders were conducted in an attempt to uncover ways in which the VolStats reports could be made even more useful.  These recommendations are currently under consideration, with new indicators and improved functionality expected in mid-2011.
