Nursing Shortage Facts

• According to the National Center for Workforce Analysis, Ohio is predicted to reach a deficit of almost 32,000 RNs by the year 2020, about a 29% vacancy rate.
• According to Nursing Management Aging Workforce Survey, 55% of surveyed nurses reported their intention of retiring between 2001-2020.
• Between 2000-2030, baby boomers will double the senior population increasing the demand for nurses.
• The U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics indicated that 1.2 million nurses will be needed by 2014.
• In Ohio, there will be a short fall of 32,000 nurses by 2014. 
• Registered nurses who are less than 30 years old represent only 8.1% of the total working nurse population.
