Test Taking Tips

General Question Tips

1. Predict questions while studying.

2. Read the directions/instructions carefully.

3. Read the questions carefully.

4. Budget your time for each question.

5. Answer easier questions first.

6. Read all the answers before you choose one, eliminating all that are 
    absolutely wrong.

7. Watch for answers to prior questions in later questions.

8. Watch for "all of the above" questions. They are often - but not always -
    the right answer.

9. Analyze the question, but don't look at it as a "trick" question. There
    are generally no intentional hidden meanings or traps.

Nursing Question Tips

1. Identify key words in the stem that indicate a negative polarity.

2. Identify key words that set a priority.

3. Identify clues in the stem.

4. Identify patient centered options.

5. Identify specific determiners in options.

6. Identify and eliminate equally plausible items.

7. Identify and eliminate options that deny patient's feelings, concerns and
    needs.

8. Identify that area of the nursing process that is being referred to.
